Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Mai Van Tam - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Cat Tien commune - said that the locality is located in the lower reaches of the Dong Nai river.

For decades, he and the people here have never witnessed a terrible flood like this. The flood has seriously affected the lives of hundreds of households.

Cat Tien is a fertile land along the river, one of the large rice granaries of Lam Dong province, associated with the Cat Tien rice brand.

In recent years, thanks to the government's orientation, people have converted many areas to crops with high economic value such as durian and mulberry.

However, major floods have submerged many production areas, causing heavy damage to people.

According to Mr. Tam, the households receiving gifts from the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund are all families subject to policies such as poor households, near-poor households, lonely elderly people, families with sick people and ethnic minorities.

"Many households had their entire crops swept away by floodwaters, and were considered to have lost everything. The loss is clearly seen in every eye, the story of farmers struggling to get used to the mud when witnessing their labor results swept away by floodwaters" - Mr. Tam shared more.

"Life depends on growing mulberry and raising silkworms. The flood swept away more than 6 sets of mulberry. We have to replant from the beginning and it will take at least 3 months to harvest, causing the revenue to completely break down" - Mr. Hung sadly said.

According to Mr. Ho Quoc Phong - Secretary of the Cat Tien Commune Party Committee - the historic flood from November 20 to 22 caused the water level of the Dong Nai River to rise, causing deep flooding over a wide area.

The whole commune had 1,430 flooded houses, many of which were more than 2m deep. The flood also submerged more than 450 hectares of rice, more than 200 hectares of durian and nearly 40 hectares of coffee, with total estimated damage of about 80 billion VND.

In particular, after the flood, dozens of hectares of durian are dying due to young mud and flooding for a long time, requiring funding for people to reinvest.
