Emma Raducanu has a number of lucrative off-court contracts, but one of her partners revealed that Porsche has taken away the car she was using.
It's been more than three years since Raducanu shocked the tennis world by winning the US Open as an 18-year-old qualifier. She didn't even drop a set at Flushing Meadows in 2021.
That achievement led to a sudden surge of media attention, and she has often spoken about the challenge of managing the increased expectations since her success at the US Open.
Raducanu has been well rewarded for his achievements, receiving a series of lucrative contracts with Vodafone, Dior, Evian and HSBC and becoming a global brand ambassador for carmaker Porsche.
While the big money from those deals was great, it has left Raducanu struggling to find his feet since winning the US Open, thanks to a combination of form issues and injuries.
After returning from a nine-month layoff with wrist and ankle injuries earlier this year, Raducanu's scheduling decisions, including not playing a match for more than three weeks before the US Open, were criticized.
A prominent fitness trainer called Raducanu's decisions crazy and confusing, arguing that there were too many people around her telling her what she wanted to hear instead of what was most helpful.
Raducanu was expected to play more matches when the season moved to Asia. Unfortunately, she was forced to retire after 31 minutes of her Korea Open quarter-final against Daria Kasatkina, later confirming that she had sprained her foot.
After missing the China Open, Raducanu also withdrew from the Wuhan Open due to the same injury. It is unknown whether she will be able to compete again before the end of the season.
Raducanu's difficult period has become worse after a car given to her by Porsche was repossessed, according to one of the tennis player's associates, the Daily Mail reported.
"Emma no longer has the Porsche. They took it back. It used to be in a place of honor in her house," the person said.
Raducanu is a car enthusiast and is delighted to have a Porsche on her property. The former US Open champion's love of Porsches was showcased in a video she made for Porsche while driving with Mark Webber in 2022.
However, a Porsche spokesperson said that while Raducanu had been loaned a Porsche in the past, that arrangement was only temporary and never permanent.
"We do lend Emma our car occasionally, but it's mostly on a case-by-case basis."
A Porsche source also told the Daily Mail that the company is known for quickly taking back cars from celebrity ambassadors if they feel they are not getting value for the large sums they paid for them.
That means Raducanu's loss of form since winning the US Open could have played a role in the decision, although that has yet to be confirmed. A Porsche spokesperson said Raducanu remains an ambassador and the company is very happy with her.
