RT reports that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, 60, is the running mate of incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 US Presidential Election - The Democratic Party of the United States announced on August 6, two weeks before the party convention.
The nomination of Governor Walz was leaked to the media on the morning of August 6, eliminating the hope of this faction to promote the selection of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.
“I am proud to announce that I have asked Tim Walz to be my running mate” - Harris wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he has brought benefits to working-class families like his own. It's great to have him on the team. Now let's get to work” - Harris emphasized.
Minnesota Governor Walz responded, saying it was an "honor of a lifetime" to participate in the campaign.
“Vice President Harris is showing us what can be done. That reminds me a bit of my first day of school. So let's finish this together, everyone” - he said.
US President Joe Biden, who withdrew from the campaign last month to support Harris, praised the selection of Governor Walz as "an excellent decision”.
On his personal X account, President Biden praised Governor Walz as "a strong, principled, and effective leader", noting that he is the highest-ranking military officer to have served in the US Congress.
President Biden emphasized that the Harris-Walz ticket will ensure that the United States continues to lead the world and play a vital role on the international stage.
Former US President Barack Obama also supports Governor Walz as Harris's running mate.
On the Republican side, the running mate of former US President Donald Trump is Ohio Senator James David Vance. At 39, Vance becomes one of the youngest candidates for the US vice presidency.
