The latest storm information from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on November 29 said that the Philippines could see up to 2 more storms before the end of the 2025 typhoon season.
According to official climate data, PAGASA confirmed that in December, it is expected that 1-2 storms will form or enter the Philippine Forecast Area (PAR).
Two potential storms Wilma and Yasmin make disaster response a top priority across the archipelago in the final days of the 2025 hurricane season.
PAGASA said that the warning is based on historical data, showing that December often has unpredictable weather developments but has a big impact.
Typically, the typhoon season peaks in July-October, but there are still so-called Christmas storms that can appear at the end of the year.
Climate models show that the trajectories of December storms are diverse, with different levels of risk in each region.
The top concern for PAGASA forecasters is the potential path of Wilma and Yasmin, based on models recorded in history.
A common scenario is that the storm enters PAR but does not make landfall but changes direction to the east of the Philippines and then moves towards Japan.
Some other storms also entered the PAR but changed direction early, not in time to enter the northern or northeastern areas of the Philippines. If they do not make landfall, these storms can still cause heavy rain, rough seas and increase monsoons along the country's east coast.
In the event of a typhoon making landfall in the Philippines, the risk will be higher and the impact will be broader.
Some other potential paths for the December typhoon in the Philippines: Scanning the North or Central Luzon area, then entering the East Sea, towards Hong Kong (China); The storm enters the East Sea towards Vietnam after causing heavy rain in Southern Luzon to Northern Visayas; The storm moves over the East Sea towards Thailand after impacting Southern Visayas to Northern Mindanao.
This shows the widespread impact in the Philippines due to the end-of-season typhoons.
As potential storms Wilma and Yasmin are set to form, PAGASA's weather bulletin said that many weather systems are affecting the Philippines next week (from November 29 to December 5).
On November 29, Northern Luzon, including Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Mountain Province, Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya, is forecast to have cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms due to wind shear formed by the collision between the northeast monsoon ( ( livelihood) and the warm winter wind.
The northeast monsoon will also bring scattered rains to Ilocos, Benguet, Abra and Batanes. The rest of the Philippines will have scattered clouds, sometimes with rain due to winter winds.
The northeast monsoon is forecast to continue affecting Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao and Ilocos Norte from December 1 to 3, causing scattered rain. Other areas are mainly cloudy and have localized rain due to the winter wind.
The low pressure trough is forecast to cause scattered showers and thunderstorms in Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Caraga and Davao Oriental from December 4 to December 5. The northeast monsoon continues to have a slight impact on the weather in Ilocos, Cordillera and Cagayan Valley. The remaining areas will continue to have localized showers due to the winter wind.
