Three British men have been arrested for their involvement in the death of Ms. 8:00 Glatman, a 60-year-old woman who died while swimming after colliding with a high-speed boat's fan in Corfu, The Sun reported.
The body of the mother of four was brought ashore at around 10am on August 31 (local time) and moved to Corfu General Hospital. Glatman was bleeding profusely after a fan cuts a dangerous artery in her leg, along with other serious injuries, according to preliminary information from the hospital.
The speedboat believed to be involved in the incident was found abandoned on a nearby beach and was taken to a local fishing port while the port authorities are investigating.
Three young British citizens, whose family owns a villa in the Ayios Stefanos area of the island, were detained last night and are being questioned about the victim's death.
According to the Telegraph, Ms. Glatman is from Bedale, North Yorkshire, UK, on vacation with her husband, Mark, 63, and daughter. quite famous in the foreign community in Corfu, she is a swimmer and often goes to the attractions, spending a few months of the year vacationing at a family-owned villa.
Local media said the ship was towing a surfer when it hit the victim and left the scene.
Another ship from a local service company quickly arrived to assist, while coastguards arrived at the scene to mobilize ambulances. However, it was too late. A friend who was believed to be swimming with the victim at the time was lucky to escape the collision.
British tourists have returned to Greece in recent weeks after travel restrictions were lifted. This is one of the countries in the "tourism corridor", where tourists can go without a two-week quarantine when they return to the UK.
