Andrei Baranov, deputy general director of the Central Design Department for Maritime Engineering of Rubin, told Sputnik why Russia's Varshavyanka-class destroyers are called "black hole launched".
This name was given to the diesel-electric Submarines of the 877 and 636 projects due to the appearance of a new thrust engine, causing the Submarine to barely make noise.
"It is the modernization of resources that has allowed the Varshavyanka-class attackwater to maintain its modernity for several decades. From the beginning, the project has been hesitant to install a new main thrust motor (MEP)" - Mr. Baranov explained.
The agency's source added that the changes in the intestines of the combat vehicle have increased the speed and smooth operation of the ship.
"Mass-made destroyers are equipped with this thrust engine, which significantly improves both their noise and speed. Thanks to the new engine, Varshavyanka has become an "authonomical black hole" - Mr. Baranov emphasized.
Mr. Baranov also noted that the electric motor has been further improved thanks to more powerful diesel generators. This replacement requires increasing the length of the train slightly, but the battery charging time is reduced, which means the possibility of disappearance increases.
Currently, there have appeared many reserve batteries with larger capacity, increasing the range of activities and time of diving vessels underwater. In addition, Russia also uses a digital sonar combination to enhance search potential.
