An assistant to Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko told reporters in Minsk that the new constitution was being implemented. He also called for peace even though the president himself was seen carrying a rifle outside his residence on August 30.
RT reported that the crowd of protests gathered outside President Lukashenko's residence in the capital Minsk had the opportunity to speak directly with one of his assistants, Nikolay Latyshenok. They were once again informed that the government considered the presidential election that Lukashenko won fair.
The official later called on the demonstrators to "resolve all issues peacefully" and informed them that the government was working on a new draft constitution.
Previously, Mr. Lukashenko revealed that he is considering the possibility of reorganizing the election after the new constitution is passed.
At the same time as his assistant was chatting with the demonstrators, Russia's RIA news agency received a photo from a spokesman for Lukashenko, in which Lukashenko was photographed outside the palace, wearing an bulletproof shirt and holding an assault rifle.
Last Sunday, the Belarusian president also held a rifle and wore a bulletproof shirt when he landed in Minsk to headquarters.
Belarus is in turmoil with unprecedented protests for three consecutive weeks, following a controversial vote that the opposition believes has been scammed. On August 30, about 100,000 protests gathered near a war memorial site in the capital Minsk to demand the president's resignation. Similar events on the two weekends last weekend also attracted such a large number of participants.
Some protests later headed to the presidential palace, also known as the Liberation Army, where a large number of police and armored vehicles were deployed to strengthen security. However, the crowd gradually decreased due to heavy rain and many people gave up halfway.
In other places in Minsk, protests ended with some clashes between protests and law enforcement officers. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, 125 people have been arrested.
