Belarus President Lukashenko informed the press about his desire to buy Russian S-400 missiles while following the 2022 Allied Resolve joint exercise between Belarus and Russia at the Osipovichi sports complex, the Belarus state news agency ( BelTA) said.
Although the S-300 missile system is enough for Belarus' defense needs, the country also has an S-400 complex. Belarus may deploy additional S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems near the capital Minsk.
"If necessary, we will deploy a few more clusters. We don't need much," BelTA quoted Lukashenko as saying.
The President of Belarus added: "We are discussing the purchase of some such systems. We can deploy them somewhere east of Minsk or near Minsk."
The S-400 missile was deployed in the Russian army in 2007 and is considered Russia's most advanced long-range anti-aircraft missile system.
capable of hitting targets at a distance of 400km at an altitude of up to 30km, Russia's S-400 missile system can destroy aircraft as well as cruise missiles and ballistic missiles. The S-400 could also be used against ground targets.
