On December 8, President of the Cambodian Senate Hun Sen called on all frontline forces to remain calm in the context of border tensions with Thailand continuously increasing for less than a day.
Mr. Hun Sen affirmed that the Thai side had "used all means of arms" in an attempt to provinceise, forcing Cambodia to respond, violating the ceasefire and the Joint Statement on the Cambodia - Thailand Peace Agreement signed on October 26, 2025.
In a Facebook post posted at around 9am (local time), President Hun Sen stated: The red line for response has been set. I request that commanders at all levels thoroughly understand this for all soldiers and officers".
Hun Sen added that he has canceled all other work schedules to work with armed forces to respond to possible tensions, and asked authorities at all levels to support people in evacuating from dangerous areas to safety.
In addition to the updated information, Hun Sen's post also comes with images of an emergency online meeting with Cambodian officials.

Also on December 8, the Cambodian Ministry of Defense accused Thailand of firing first, saying it violated the ceasefire agreement.
Lieutenant General Maly Socheata - Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense - requested "Thailand to take full responsibility for the violations" and "immediately end all hostile actions".
Meanwhile, the Thai side said that Cambodian forces fired shots at soldiers of the 13th Infantry Regiment in the Phu Pha Lek area ( Kantharalak district, Si Sa Ket) and Chong Bok area (Ubon Ratchathani province), with about 10 shots fired on the evening of December 7 (local time).
Thai authorities called on people to monitor official information, stay calm, and evacuate people from 4 provinces near the border with Cambodia.
Thailand's Military Region 2 emphasized that the task of protecting the border is being carried out carefully and determinedly, with the goal of maintaining national peace and security.
