Europe plans to escape dependence on the US

European leaders are discussing a response strategy to the US President, focusing on greater security and economic autonomy.

According to information from The New York Times, European leaders held a working dinner in Brussels (Belgium) to develop a plan to respond to changes in US President Donald Trump's foreign policy. This move reflects the strategic adjustment of the old continent in the context of volatile transatlantic relations.

Sources said that this plan was built on the perception that Mr. Trump's economic measures and political views are creating great pressure on Europe. However, instead of reacting harshly, EU leaders agreed to choose a calm approach to statements from Washington.

The US newspaper commented that this plan is a turning point in political thinking. For the first time, European leaders have shown high consensus on the need to have a more independent position than the US.

However, experts also point out that this document is currently still at the strategic orientation level and is still quite abstract. Realizing the goal of separating or reducing dependence on the US is an extremely difficult problem. It requires Europe to accept huge defense costs and resolve internal disagreements, while still maintaining skillful diplomatic relations with the Trump administration.
