The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the visit to Taiwan by the US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi affected the political foundation of China-US relations, seriously violating the "One China" principle and the provisions of the three China-US Joint Statutes, violating China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Declaration emphasizes that the right way to resolve the relationship between two major countries such as the US and China must be on the basis of "mutual respect, coexistence in peace, no confrontation and co-operation in victory".
