Former South Korean President's speech attracts attention about allegations

Former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol believes that "political pressure" on himself is unreasonable, affirming that this could affect many people.

On July 21, former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol made a shocking statement, saying: "Unreasonable political oppression is enough for me" in the context of him continuing to be arrested and prosecuted for the charge of abusing power.

Speaking through legal representatives, Mr. Yoon added: "In addition to the political oppression of mine, innocent people are also suffering."

Mr. Yoon also expressed hope that the unjust oppression that tarnishes the honor of those who have devoted their lives to the country and the people and harmed their lives will be immediately stopped.

Previously, on July 19, Mr. Yoon was arrested by the special investigation team on charges of abuse of power, forgery of public documents, violation of the Presidential records act, destruction of public documents, violation of the Presidential Security act, obstructation of special public duties and plots to support runners-up.

On July 21, special investigator Park Ji-young answered a Korean reporter's question about the special investigation team's stance on former President Yoon's comments.

At a regular press conference, Mr. Park said: "I think refuting that is useless" and added, "the term 'political investigation' is unacceptable".

"I believe the special investigation team has fully explained the context of the allegations against former President Yoon," Mr. Park added, affirming that Mr. Yoon's refusal to use the term "politics" for this investigation is ineffective.
