The continuous flow of military aid to Ukraine clearly shows that the West is looking for ways to wear down or down Russia - RT quoted former President Dmitry Medvedev as saying on January 22.
However, Medvedev said the effort could eventually backfire on the US and its allies.
The comments from former President Medvedev - now deputy head of the Russian Security Council - came days after a meeting at the US air base Ramstein in Germany, where Western powers pledged to continue supporting Kiev.
The meeting in Ramstein and the allocation of heavy weapons to Kiev clearly show that the enemy will try to exhaust us or destroy us. However, the prolonged war in Ukraine could eventually lead to the emergence of a new military bloc that would gather the countries that have been tired of the Americans, Medvedev wrote.
This has always happened in human history during the long wars. After that, the US will eventually abandon the old Europe and what is left of the Ukrainians, and the world will return to a state of balance once again, Medvedev said, warning that it could be too late before this happens.
Moscow has repeatedly called on the West to stop supplying weapons to Ukraine, asserting that this would only prolong the hostilities rather than changing the final outcome.
Top Russian officials have repeatedly described what is happening as a proxy war between Russia and the US-led NATO alliance rather than a simple conflict with Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Russian House of Representatives Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin warned that a "global tragedy" could happen to humanity if the West continues to supply weapons to Ukraine, and Russia could retaliate with stronger weapons if its territory is threatened.
wrote on Telegram on January 22, Mr. Volodin pointed out that if weapons provided by the US and NATO member states are used to attack civilian cities and try to occupy Russian territory, Moscow will respond with stronger weapons.
The Speaker of the Russian House of Representatives continued to argue that Western officials should be aware of their responsibility in blocking such a scenario.
Mr. Volodin warned: "Considering the technological advantage of Russian weapons, foreign politicians making such decisions need to understand that it could become a global tragedy that destroys their country."
On January 18, the New York Times, citing some US officials, said that the Biden administration may be considering providing Ukraine with the ability to attack targets in Crimea.
Right before the meeting in Ramstein on January 20, the US announced a new defense aid package worth $2.5 billion for Ukraine, including Bradley infantry fighter jets, Stryker armored vehicles, Humvee anti- mine protection vehicles, as well as 20,000 conventional artillery shells and 600 155 mm accurate guided-wheel ammunition.
In addition, Washington has pledged to provide Kiev with more missiles for the HIMARS M142 and MLRS M270 multiple launch missile systems.
Earlier this month, the UK confirmed plans to provide Ukraine with some of the Challenger 2 main battle tanks. However, the Western allies have not reached an agreement with Germany on sending the Leopard 2 tank to Kiev.
In addition to the US Bradley and Stryke, Ukraine is preparing to receive the French AMX-10 RC armored fighting vehicle. President Emmanuel Macron announced the supply plan earlier this month.
Sweden also promised to provide CB-90 infantry fighting vehicles and Archer self-propelled artillery.
