According to CNN, Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly defeated Republican candidate Blake Masters for a seat in the race to the US Senate in Arizona in the midterm election.
Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly won with 1,128,917 votes in Arizona (equivalent to 51.8%), surpassing Republican opponent Blake Masters with 1,005,001 votes (equivalent to 46.1%).
With the above victory, the Democratic Party has won 49 seats in the Senate - equal to the number of seats with the Republican Party, as of 12:00 on November 12, Vietnam time.
Thus, the outcome of the race for which party controls the Senate will depend on the results of the midterm elections in the two states of Nevada and Georgia.
In Nevada, Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto still has a narrow number of votes for Republican Adam Laxalt, with a gap of less than 800 votes.
In Georgia, the second round of the Senate candidates will take place on December 6, when Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock will face Republican opponent Herschel Walker. In the November 8 vote, both candidates did not get 50% of the votes.
The US Senate has 100 seats. To gain control of the Senate, a party must have at least 51 seats. In the event that the two parties share 50-50 seats equally, control of the Senate will still belong to the Democrats thanks to the vote of Vice President Kamala Harris.
Meanwhile, in the House of Representatives, as of 12:00 on November 12, Vietnam time, the Democratic Party won 203 seats, the Republican Party won 211 seats. To take control of the House of Representatives, a party must have at least 218 seats out of a total of 435 seats.
