According to CNN, during the fundraising event of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts on July 16, first wife Jill Biden expressed disappointment in the sluggish progress of President Joe Biden's term at the White House.
According to the First Lady, President Biden often faces unpredictable crises during his term in office.
"The president has a lot of hope and a plan for what he wants to do, but he always has to deal with the problems ahead of him," Ms. Jill Biden told attendees at the fundraising event.
Ms. Jill Biden said that gun violence, an important decision of the Supreme Court on the Roe v Wade case and the Russia-Ukraine war, are issues that President Joe Biden could not foresee.
The president is getting too much stuck, Jill Biden said. "Who can think about what happened to the Supreme Court's overturned ruling in the Roe v Wade case? We see it coming, but we still don't believe it. gun violence in this country is really terrible. We also do not see the war in Ukraine approaching.
The US Supreme Court took a dramatic turn in June, overturning the landmark Roe v Wade ruling in 1973 that recognized women's right to continue to have children under the Constitution and legalized abortion nationwide. This ruling brought a huge victory for the Republicans and conservative religious groups who wanted to limit or ban abortion. First of all, the lady expressed her disappointment with this verdict.
Ms. Jill Biden also criticized the National Assembly in her speech, blaming the Republican Party for the stagnant White House agenda. Mr. Biden's "Build Back Better" plan - which could have expanded the US social security network - was hit latest this week when Democratic Congressman Joe Manchin of West Virginia rejected any climate or tax provisions in the bill. The Democrats need Mr. Manchins support to pass the bill.
Ms. Jill Biden also announced that she is expected to meet first lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska next week. The first two met in May during Biden's unprecedented trip to Ukraine.
The July 16 event marked the second fundraising event of the Democratic National Committee that the first woman attended during her two-day trip to Massachusetts.
The comments of the first lady of the United States were made in the context of the declining support for President Joe Biden's re-election in 2024. The Yahoo News/YouGov poll released on July 14 showed that only 18% of respondents approved of Mr. Biden's re-election campaign in 2024, while up to 64% said he should stay out of the race. This is one of President Joe Biden's worst numbers to date.
Another survey conducted by Harvard CAPS-Harris poll last month largely matched Yahoos results, showing that 71% of respondents did not think Biden should run for re-election, while only 29% voted for president.
The overall confidence rate during Mr. Biden's time in the Oval Office also decreased, down to below 30% in a recent poll by Civiqs - the lowest number ever.
Meanwhile, more than half of Republicans surveyed (60%) told Yahoo that former President Donald Trump should re-elect the White House, nearly double the Democratic Party's support for Mr. Biden.
