CNN reported that US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden welcomed a new cat to the White House on January 28. The two-year-old gray cat is named Willow. The name was inspired by the First Lady's hometown in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania.
According to First Lady's press secretary Michael LaRosa, Biden first met Willow at a campaign stop in 2020, when the cat jumped onto the stage. The owners of the farm where the event was being held saw an immediate bond between Mr. Biden and the cat.
Spokesperson LaRosa said in a statement: Willow is preparing to enter the White House with favorite toys, snacks and plenty of space to smell and explore.
President Joe Biden also welcomed the new cat in a Twitter post, in which he shared a photo of it.
Welcome to the Biden family, Willow! Mr. Biden wrote.
At the White House, Mr. and Mrs. Biden have been raising Commander, a purely German Sheep dog, since December.
Previously, Mr. and Mrs. Biden's beloved German Sheep dog, Champ, died in June 2021 at the age of 13. Another German Sheep dog, Major, lives mainly in Wilmington, Delaware, after biting a White House employee several times.
CNN said that the last time a pet cat was at the White House was under the George W. Bush administration, and its name was India.
