On July 25, the Thai Ministry of Home Affairs said that 100,672 people from four border provinces had been relocated to shelters. The Ministry of Health announced that the number of people killed in the fighting increased to 14, including 13 civilians and 1 soldier.
Thai media reported that 8 civilians were killed when a Cambodia's BM-21 missile attacked a 7-Eleven convenience store. The store is located inside the PTT petroleum complex in Kantharalak district, Sisaket province.
Immediately after being hit by the missile, the building sank into a sea of fire, leaving very little trace of the structure or the victim. By early morning on July 25, emergency rescue teams could not recover the body due to continuous shelling, making it impossible for forensic units to access the scene.
The Thai military also reported on the developments of the fighting on the ground on July 24, saying that the fighting began at 8:20 a.m. when the Cambodian army launched a shelling campaign east of Prasat Ta Muen. This location is near Thailand's Wild Boar military base. Thai forces quickly responded with coordinated ground and airstrikes.
Thailand said two Cambodian tanks were destroyed near Prasat Don Tuan during the fighting. In addition to ground fighting, many of Cambodia's BM-21 missiles have fired at the Kantharalak district. The missiles fell very close to fuel depots, homes and civil gathering places.
The fighting also broke out near the Viharn border (the Thai way of calling the Preah Vihear temple), extending from Wat Kaew to Phu Makhuea hill. As of the morning of July 25, Thailand and Cambodia have remained in the disputed area. Although the front line has not changed, the situation is still tense and unstable.
According to Thailand, 11 areas in 4 provinces of the country were damaged by Cambodian fire. These provinces include Surin, Buriram, Ubon Ratchathani and Sisaket. Affected areas include schools, homes, gas stations and government facilities.
Cambodian media reported that as of 6:00 a.m. on July 25, the second day of the fighting, the Cambodian and Thai armies were still fighting and shelling each other along the front line.
Fireworks continued to take place in some areas at 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. in Preah Vihear - Phnom Khaing and 5:00 a.m. in Takrabei area.
Cambodian media said that the Cambodian army continues to control the situation, consolidating its solid position at Ta Moan Thom Temple, Ta Krabey Temple and Mom Tei area.
Reports from the military on the ground in the two provinces of Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear show that the two sides continue to use heavy artillery to target the opponent.
Ms. Maly Socheata - spokesperson of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense - informed that on July 24, the Thai army attacked 8 locations, using heavy weapons and F-16 fighter jets.
The eight locations include: Ta Moan Thom Temple, Ta Krabey Temple, Phnom Trat, Veal Intri, Tathav, Phnom Khak, An Ses O Phka Sweten, and Mom Bei.
The fighting between Cambodia and Thailand broke out on the morning of July 24 at Ta Moan Thom Temple in Oddar Meanchey province, spreading to other locations along the Cambodia - Thailand border.
