In a video celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States, Ambassador Marc Knapper recalled that on July 11, 1995, President Bill Clinton announced the normalization of relations between the two countries. Just a few weeks later, embassies were opened in Hanoi and Washington D.C., laying the foundation for a relationship that has deepened and become more dynamic over the years.
The Ambassador emphasized that through dialogue and strengthening relations, the two sides have built trust and mutual respect by jointly addressing post-war issues, making strong strides through promoting trade and investment, enhancing health cooperation, and expanding educational exchange programs to bring people of the two countries closer together.
Also in the video, US Consul General to Vietnam Susan Burns said that Vietnam is now one of the US's leading trade partners in Southeast Asia, the largest source of international students in ASEAN, and an important partner in maintaining regional security, stability and prosperity.
Together, the two sides are writing a new chapter of cooperation and addressing global challenges such as climate change and health security, promoting innovation through technology and education.
Addressing the young generation of Vietnam, Ms. Susan Burns said: "We expect you to continue to be a strong bridge between the two countries. I believe that with close cooperation, our future will be brighter than ever."
That is why the United States is investing in the future of the US-Vietnam partnership through expanding education and exchange programs like the Fulbright scholarship in science and technology.
Together, we build a healthier future by enhancing cooperation on health security, increasing trade and investment in health care, and addressing emerging public health challenges.
The partnership also includes joint efforts to reduce plastic waste, improve climate resilience, promote renewable energy, and conserve Vietnam’s precious biodiversity, to protect and improve the current and future environment for you and your family.
US Ambassador Marc Knapper expressed his gratitude to those who have been part of the wonderful 30-year journey of US-Vietnam relations. "And let's look forward to the next 30 years of friendship, cooperation and shared success," the Ambassador said.
