According to Xinhua News Agency, the Israeli military announced on August 5 (local time) that it had conducted airstrikes targeting southern Lebanon, amid a new round of negotiations mediated by the US between Israel and Lebanon entering its 2nd day.
In a statement, the Israeli military stated that the airstrikes were carried out late on August 4, targeting a Hezbollah tunnel in the Srobbin area, Bint Jbeil district, southern Lebanon.
According to Israel, this tunnel is tens of meters long and is used by Hezbollah to access and carry out attacks targeting soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
The Lebanese National News Agency reported that Israeli military vehicles entered the suburbs of Aita al-Jabal, while Israeli artillery fired into this town and nearby Hadatha suburbs. Israeli drones and reconnaissance aircraft were also seen operating in the area.
There is currently no information about casualties on both sides.
The Israeli military said that its soldiers stationed at several locations in southern Lebanon discovered a weapons depot containing Hezbollah launchers and missiles.
The airstrikes took place one day after Israel and Lebanon began 3-day talks in Rome (Italy) to promote security agreements along the border and implement the framework of the agreement reached in Washington (USA) at the end of June. This is the 7th round of talks between Israel and Lebanon.
