The Israeli military confirmed on September 6 (local time) that it had carried out airstrikes targeting Yemen's main airport in the capital Sanaa, amid escalating tensions with the Houthi forces.
According to witnesses at the scene, there were a total of 4 airstrikes in Sanaa.
Israel has previously warned people to leave the area around Sanaa International Airport, along with a location map. If you dont evacuate, it will endanger you, the Israeli military stressed in a message to the people.
The warning came just a day after Israel airstrikes Hodeidah in response to the Houthi forces launching missiles near Israel's Ben Gurion main airport on May 4.
Three sources at the airport quoted Reuters as saying that the attacks on June 6 targeted three civilian aircraft, the departure hall area, runways and air bases controlled by the Houthi forces.
Tensions between Israel and the Houthis are rising, as the force continues its attacks in response to Israel's expansion of its military campaign in the Gaza Strip. On May 4, the Houthis announced that they would impose a comprehensive air blockade on Israel by continuously targeting its airports.
Israeli airstrikes around the Hodeidah area on May 5 killed four people and injured 39 others, according to a Houthi-run Ministry of Health. However, there were no official reports of casualties in the attacks in Sanaa on May 6.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged to respond after the Houthi missile crashed near Ben Gurion airport, causing many European and international airlines to cancel flights to and from Israel.
Since the conflict between Israel and Hamas broke out in Gaza, Houthi forces have continuously attacked Israel and maritime routes in the Red Sea.
