The death toll from flooding in Australia has reached four, with tens of thousands stranded.

In a flood in southeastern Australia on May 23, the body of a man was found in a jammed car, bringing the death toll to four.

Police said the man was found near Coffs Harbour, about 550km north of Sydney.

The search for missing people has been continuing since floods began earlier this week.

Heavy rains have occurred for 3 consecutive days in this area, isolating all urban areas, sweeping away many cattle and destroying houses.

Emergency service staff said that about 50,000 people are still being isolated. Authorities are looking to increase efforts to provide necessities to those stranded after stabilizing weather conditions.

The authorities also advised people to be alert for the dangers of floodwaters, animals or power outages when returning home.

Video on Australian television shows many intersections and street signs flooded, cars submerged in water in the Hunter and Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia's most populous state. Garbage and dead cattle in the flood also drifted in the coastal area.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese plans to visit flooded towns as early as May 23.

The conditions were terrible. This is a very serious situation" - he shared with Triple M Newcastle radio.

Due to the impact of flooding, more than 100 schools in Australia were still closed on May 23, thousands of homes were still without power. The river water level will remain at a dangerous level for many days, officials said.
