Yonhap reported that the incident of the Jeju Air plane occurred at 9:07 a.m. on December 29 local time when the plane, returning from Bangkok, was approaching the runway in Muan City, South Jeolla Province, about 288 km from Seoul.
According to information from the Korean police and fire department, there were about 175 passengers and 6 crew members on board. After skidding off the runway, the plane crashed into a nearby fence.
There is no exact information on casualties yet, but preliminary information shows that at least 28 people were killed, according to Yonhap.
Authorities are investigating at the scene to determine the exact cause of the plane crash. Muan International Airport has also activated emergency measures to handle the situation and assist passengers.
According to AP, the emergency office said a landing gear on the plane had malfunctioned.
