Truong Khanh oil field is located in the Erdos basin in northwestern China. Truong Khanh was once considered a sideline oil field with little development value.
However, Chinese geologists have made some technological breakthroughs and innovations, thereby continuing to reach the highest output at the Truong Khanh oil field, according to CGTN.
With more than 50 years of history, the oil field has played an important role in ensuring China's energy security, supplying gas to several major cities, including Beijing and Tianjin.
In 2021, Truong Khanh oil field produced more than 46.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas, accounting for 23% of the country's total output.
To date, Truong Khanh oil field has produced more than 555 billion cubic meters of gas, equivalent to 720 million tons of standard coal, reducing 1.956 billion tons of carbon dioxide gas and other emissions.
Mr. He Jiangchuan - Party Secretary of Truong Khanh Oil Refinery Company - said that Truong Khanh Refinery still has sustainable production potential. "In the 14th 5-year plan (2021 - 2025), the mine will continue to accelerate natural gas exploration and development activities, increase storage and production, and boost annual oil and gas output equivalent to 68 million tons" - the leader of a subsidiary of the National Oil and Gas Group of China informed.
The Ordos basin in northwestern China is known as the country's energy bank in the 21st century. Ordos is witnessing large-scale development with many large-scale energy projects under construction.
Since the 1980s, Chinese geologists have made remarkable new discoveries in a 370,000-km2 basin, including the Western Ship, Shipwreck and Gansu provinces as well as the self-governing areas of the Nininghua and Inner Mongolia ethnic groups.
