US hopes to soon complete reciprocal tax negotiations with Vietnam

Foreign Minister Marco Rubio wished Vietnam and the US to soon complete reciprocal tax negotiations, creating a framework to promote bilateral cooperation.

On February 19, Politburo Member, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung held talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the US State Department on the occasion of participating in the delegation led by General Secretary To Lam to attend the opening meeting of the Peace Council on Gaza.

Minister Le Hoai Trung affirmed that Vietnam values stable and long-term relations with the United States, in accordance with the interests of the people of the two countries and making positive contributions to peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

The Minister highly appreciated the support and positive cooperation of Secretary of State Rubio personally as well as the US State Department for helping to effectively implement measures to promote relations between the two countries; requested the two sides to continue to coordinate to strengthen political trust, promote delegation exchanges at all levels, including high-level, strengthen economic cooperation, defense - security, war recovery, science - technology...

Regarding international issues, Minister Le Hoai Trung welcomed the US's continued interest and positive and responsible contribution to the peace, security and development of the region, in which he highly appreciated President Trump's Peace Council Initiative and thanked the President for inviting Vietnam to join the Council.

Minister Le Hoai Trung affirmed that Vietnam is ready to promote its role and favorable conditions to join the US and the international community in promoting peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region as well as in the world.

Foreign Minister Marco Rubio congratulated the success of the 14th Party Congress and affirmed that the United States supports a strong, independent, self-reliant, prosperous Vietnam, in line with the interests of the people of the two countries, highly appreciates Vietnam's socio-economic achievements and believes that Vietnam's development model is suitable for many countries.

Foreign Minister Marco Rubio thanked Vietnam for being one of the first countries to accept the invitation to participate in the Peace Council and General Secretary To Lam to attend the opening meeting of the Peace Council in Washington D.C.; affirming that Vietnam's participation in the Peace Council is of great significance, and also showing an increasingly proactive and active Vietnam in responding to common challenges in the region and in the world.

Foreign Minister Marco Rubio assessed that Vietnam-US relations have a solid foundation, based on many common interests - a fundamental factor for the relationship to continue to develop in the coming time.

Regarding economic and trade cooperation, Foreign Minister Marco Rubio wished the two sides to soon complete reciprocal tax negotiations, create a framework to promote bilateral cooperation in this field, as well as expand cooperation in science, technology, defense - security... for the benefit of the people of the two countries, for peace and stability in the region and in the world.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern. Foreign Minister Marco Rubio highly appreciated Vietnam's increasing role and voice at regional and multilateral forums such as ASEAN, G20, APEC...; emphasized the importance of resolving disputes through peaceful means, respecting the interests of all parties.

On this occasion, Minister Le Hoai Trung reiterated the invitation to Foreign Minister Marco Rubio to visit Vietnam. Foreign Minister Marco Rubio happily accepted the invitation.
