On September 13, the Trump administration submitted to Congress a $58 million proposal to increase security for law enforcement and justice after the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
A White House official confirmed that the additional amount will be transferred to the US Department of Justice and will also include increased protection of Supreme Court judges.
The Trump administration also supports raising the budget to protect Congress lawmakers, but it could let the legislative branch decide on the issue.
All of the above moves took place before the government budget deadline on September 30.
Previously, in August, a new pilot program for House members was introduced, providing additional allowances for members to hire private guards or upgrade security at home.
As of September 11, House Speaker Mike Johnson said a "intentional" and thorough review of the program was underway on the weekend, noting that the Senate was also considering additional safety precautions.
"We have to protect those running for public office, otherwise no one would do it anymore, and this is weighing on our hearts and minds, as we are also overcoming the pain of what happened," Johnson told reporters.

Meanwhile, the head of the US Congress Department (USCP), Mr. Michael Sullivan, said the Department of Police is expected to monitor more than 14,000 threats to members by the end of this year, far exceeding previous years.
Mr. Sullivan affirmed that the USCP will operate in a "high alert" position in the coming time. "We have prepared to continue to respond and keep the safety of National Assembly members," the police chief said.
On September 10, conservative activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated at an event in Orem, Utah, while answering questions from Utah Valley University students.
Charlie Kirk, 31, a close ally of Trump and CEO of Turning Point USA, was shot in the neck about 20 minutes after finishing the speech.
At that time, the sound of gunshots and the scene of Charlie Kirk falling on stage made the crowd panic and chaotic. Local police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation ( FBI) have opened an investigation.
The suspect has now been arrested.
