China faces an unprecedented heat wave in May, with temperatures could reach as high as 40 degrees Celsius in the north.

The latest weather forecast from the China Meteorological Administration said that a new heavy rainstorm will fall in the southern regions of the country starting from May 17 while northern China will enter a period of severe heat, with some places likely to record temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius next week.

On May 14, heavy rain appeared in some areas including the east and south of Yunnan province, the west of Guangdong province and the east of Hubei province. From May 15-16, the rain will expand significantly in southern China, with moderate to heavy rain, some places with very heavy rain, accompanied by local thunderstorms and other extreme weather phenomena.

From May 16 to 17, the south will continue to experience widespread heavy rain, with stable rain areas.

Meanwhile, high temperatures began to rise again from May 16 in some areas in northern China, such as Shandong Province and Shandong Province.

Chinese weather forecasters say that from May 19 to 20, the range and intensity of the heat will spread. Areas such as the Western Sphere and Ha Nam will become the focus of the heat wave, with temperatures approaching or exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.

In Tay An city (Thiem Tay province), the temperature on May 20 is forecast to exceed 40 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is as forecast, this will be the earliest day of temperature to 40 degrees Celsius in the history of data monitoring and could be the record high temperature in May here.

Trinh Chau City (Ha Nam Province) may also reach 38 degrees Celsius on May 19, the highest level since the beginning of the year.

Southern China will also experience an increase in temperatures after May 19. On May 19-20, cities such as Nanjing (Giang To province) and Chengdu (Tu Xuyen province) may record temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius.
