The launching ceremony of the Khabarovsk nuclear Submarine was solemnly held on November 1 at the Sevmash Shipyard in Severodvinsk City, northern Russia, with the participation of Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov and many senior generals.
Today is a special milestone: The nuclear subsistent ship named Khabarovsk - a symbol of the new power of the Russian Navy - was officially launched. With modern underwater weapons and robot systems, the ship will contribute to protecting Russia's maritime borders and national interests across all oceans, Belousov said.
After the ceremony, Minister Belousov said the Khabarovsk ship would enter the sea testing phase before being officially deployed.
According to Admiral Viktor Kravchenko, former Chief of the Russian Navy's Chief of Staff, the Khabarovsk is the first Submarine designed specifically to deploy the Poseidon system - a giant nuclear trawler, capable of traveling thousands of kilometers on the ocean floor and carrying a nuclear warhead with extremely powerful destruction.
Unlike a ballistic missile launched from a Submarine, Poseidon operates as an underwater nuclear drone, programmed automatically to approach targets and can detonate near the opponents coast, creating a huge radioactive Tsunami.
President Vladimir Putin once declared that Poseidon torpedoes cannot be intercepted by any current defense system, because they move deep underwater at high speeds, making traditional radar or sonar almost useless.
The Russian launch of the Khabarovsk Submarine comes just days after the country's Ministry of Defense announced a successful test of the Poseidon nuclear drone and the unlimited-range Burevestnik cruise missile - two weapons that are considered a "game-changer" in the field of strategic deterrence.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has also ordered the US Department of War to restart the nuclear weapons testing program, citing the reason for stratecky competition with Russia and China.
Analysts say that Russia's simultaneous announcement of two strategic nuclear weapons just a few days away from the US is a clear message about the new balance of power taking shape.
Responding to the press on October 31, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov affirmed that Russia "does not participate in the arms race with the US", but Russia "will protect national security at all costs".
Defense experts say the Khabarovsk - along with the previous Belgorod class - will become the "Poseidon duo" of the Russian Navy, strengthening the country's position in the global nuclear deterrence strategy.
