Russia may repair the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, which were damaged early last week.
"There are technical capabilities to restore infrastructure. This requires appropriate time and funding. I am sure that appropriate opportunities will be found" - Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Novak shared with Russia 1 TV.
However, according to the Russian official, the first step is to identify the culprit behind the Nord Stream sabotage.
We started from the fact that we first need to find out who caused it. We are sure that some countries have expressed their views and expressed their interest in this matter before. Both the US, Ukraine, and Poland have said that this infrastructure will not work, that they will do everything to ensure that. Therefore, this needs to be seriously considered" - Mr. Aleksandr Novak emphasized.
Citing information from German security forces, Der Tagesspiegel previously reported that the gas pipeline connecting Russia - Germany through the Baltic Sea is likely to be permanently damaged if not repaired quickly because the seawater could cause corrosion.
Danish authorities reported leaks on both the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines on September 26 after a local pipeline operator recorded a phenomenon of low pressure in the gas pipelines following a series of underwater explosions in the area.
The Danish Energy Agency reported on October 2 that the pressure at Nord Stream 1 had stabilized and the gas leak had ended. The day before, gas leakage at Nord Stream 2 had also stopped.
The Nord Stream 1 and 2 leak are considered by many to be the result of sabotage. Russia called it a terrorist attack. The culprit of this sabotage has not yet been identified.
