"The exercise includes practical exercises on controlling diverse groups of forces at a significant distance from stationed facilities to protect and defend communication at sea and in the ocean, as well as organizing interactions between warships and airspace to search for and track down suspected enemy ship groups and vessels," Sputnik quoted the Russian Defense Ministry as saying.
The announcement noted that the role of joint commander of combat exercises of diverse forces in the central Pacific region was assigned by the Commander of the Russian Pacific fleet, Admiral Sergei Avakyants.
"The Pacific Navy's naval action groups have traveled about 4,000km from their bases and combat areas, deploying fleet forces in the designated area over the Pacific Ocean to carry out training missions," the statement said.
Participating in the exercise are surface warships, Submarines and support ships. These ships include the Varyag missile cruiser, the large Admiral Panteleev anti-submarine ship equipped with guided missile weapons, the Shaposhnikov Nguyen Ship, the Gromki and Shovershennnyi escort ships, the Aldar Tsydenzhapov Russian Heroic Ship, the Krylov Nguyen Ship, and logistics ships.
"In addition, about 20 Russian aircraft also participated in the exercise, including Tu-142mz long-range anti-submarine aircraft, MiG-31BM anti-altitude fighter jets and other aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
