The closed-door talks between the US and Russia on a peace deal in Ukraine are like Nord Stream but a hundred times as good, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski warned.
Nord Stream is a gas pipeline project between Russia and Germany. The project's implementation has caused gas to be transported directly from Russia to Germany, bypassing several European countries, including Poland and Ukraine, causing them to lose transit fees.
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski's comments came after the Wall Street Journal revealed that the backstage negotiation channels could put Ukraine under pressure to cede more territory in exchange for US corporations to gain large-scale access to the Russian market.
The news report stated that these negotiations were attended by US presidential special advisor Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner - son-in-law of Donald Trump and Kirill Dmitriev - special advisor to President Vladimir Putin.
The sides are said to have discussed how to boost the Russian economy by channeling profitable contracts in the fields of rare earth and energy towards US businesses.
Speaking to Poland's TVN24 channel on November 29, Foreign Minister Sikorski emphasized that Poland will not participate in or support any agreement to exchange Ukrainian territory for the benefit of corporations.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also criticized the proposal: "We know this is not for peace. This is for business benefits.
Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski said that this plan may not reflect the official stance of the US side and not everyone will accept it.
However, Poland's top diplomat warned that Europe is at a risky time: "We are witnessing an alarming intersection of many factors".
