Hundreds of visitors visit around Park Geun-hye's new residence, taking selfies in front of her house, climbing the guardrail to see inside the palace. Some even streamed the former South Korean president's visit to his new residence on YouTube.
According to the Korea Times, Ms. Park Geun-hye's new residence is believed to have been purchased by a lawyer representing her and in her name last month.
The former South Korean president's new residence is 1,676 square meters wide, priced at 2.5 billion won ($1.67 million). The 2-storey house has a basement and elevator, located on a hillside. The house also has 3 additional blocks of houses and a garden, with an observation camera, and a 2-7m high wall surrounding it.
Dalseong, Daegu was the political hometown of Ms. Park Geun-hye, when she started her political career here. She ran for parliament in 1998 and was elected four times.
Korean media speculates that Dalseong could be the next Bongha village. Bongha in Gimhae, Gyeongsang Nam Province, where former President Roh Moo-hyun lived after his term ended. The presence of former President Roh has contributed to the explosion of local tourism.
Ms. Park Geun-hye was impeached in March 2017 and sentenced to 22 years in prison, after being convicted of 16 corruption crimes. She was granted a pardon in December last year.
Since his release from prison, former president Park Geun-hye has been hospitalized at Samsung Medical Center in central Seoul for treatment of a variety of conditions, including shoulder and back pain. The date of Ms. Park's discharge is currently unknown.
