In an interview on the Full Measure television program on September 22 (local time), former US President Donald Trump was asked whether he would consider launching another campaign in four years (2028) if he was not successful this time.
"No, I don't. I think this is the last time," the former president replied, adding that he remains optimistic about winning the 2024 US presidential election.
"I hope we will be successful," said Mr. Trump.
Earlier, Mr. Trump ruled out participating in another presidential debate with Ms. Kamala Harris, after CNN announced that the Democratic candidate had accepted an invitation to participate in the debate on October 23.
“Another debate is long overdue,” Mr Trump told supporters at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, explaining that “the voting has already begun”.
Trump had previously criticized the ABC debate with Harris on September 10 as “dishonest.” The former president said he would only consider another live debate held on a “fair channel.”
Donald Trump won the US presidency in 2016 after defeating Hillary Clinton. He lost the presidency to Joe Biden in 2020.
While the US Constitution prohibits a person from serving more than two terms as president, Mr Trump has floated the idea of somehow “negotiating” a third term if he is re-elected.
