Yonhap reported that the South Korean National Assembly voted on December 14 to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol. The impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk Yeol was passed with 204 votes in favor - 85 abstentions, with 3 blank votes and 8 invalid votes.
The proposal to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol for the second time was made by the opposition Democratic Party and five other small opposition parties on December 12.
This proposal accuses President Yoon Suk Yeol of violating the constitution and other laws when he declared martial law on December 3.
The impeachment motion was revised from the first motion to drop some charges against President Yoon Suk Yeol but also added others, including that President Yoon Suk Yeol ordered the military and police to arrest lawmakers while martial law was in effect.
The impeachment motion passed by the South Korean National Assembly means President Yoon Suk Yeol will be suspended from office while the Constitutional Court makes its ruling, and Prime Minister Han Duck Soo will assume the role of interim president. The court has 180 days to make a decision on Yoon Suk Yeol's future.
