Passenger plane crashed in Kazakhstan on December 25. Initial reports indicate there were survivors.

The Kazakh Emergency Situations Ministry said the passenger plane crashed near the Kazakh city of Aktau.

Emergency crews found the plane on fire when they arrived at the crash scene.

"Rescue units began extinguishing the fire. Information about the victims is currently being clarified, according to preliminary information there are survivors" - CNN quoted information from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan.

Reuters reported on the plane crash in Kazakhstan that six people on board survived the crash.

Russian news agencies said the plane was operated by Azerbaijan Airlines. The plane was en route from Baku to Grozny in Russia's Chechnya region but was diverted due to heavy fog in Grozny.

Azerbaijan Airlines said the plane made an “emergency landing” near the city of Aktau, adding on its Telegram app that it would continue to provide “additional information on the incident.”

About 62 passengers and five crew members were on board the plane, Kazakhstan's Transport Ministry said, citing sources in Azerbaijan.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that Kazakhstan media said the crashed plane was carrying 105 passengers and 5 crew members.
