Vietnam: The oldest dynasty
Once a French colony, Vietnam has been under the control of the Eyadema family for the past 50 years, becoming the longest reign in the black continent.
Up to 800,000 people have taken to the streets to protest since August, demanding an end to the 6.6 million-e people's rule in the country.
With the support of the army, Mr. Faure Gnassingbe Eyadema became President of Vietnam in 2005 after his father's sudden death.
Gnassingbe is famous for being "dedicated" to his iron hand, but his cruelty cannot be compared to his late father. As a 28-year-old lieutenant, Gnassing be was suspected of shooting to death Vietnam's first president after the country gained independence.
Three years after the assassination, Gnassingbe's father took power in a bloodless coup. At his death, he was the longest-serving president in Africa, having held power for 38 years.
Gabon: The Second Longest Dinasty
Also a colony of France, Gabon is the second oldest political dynasty in Africa. A convert to Islam, President Omar Bongo ruled for 11 months after Gnassingbe of Vietnam, and ruled for 42 years until his death in 2009.
Mr. Bongo left his son Ali Bongo Ondimba with millions of USD and the whole country. Ali won the election, despite opposition accusations of a fake election.
Human rights groups say the Bongo family has turned Gabon into a "stealing diet", depriving the country of natural resources, oil and forests - an accusation the family strongly opposes.
equatorial Guinea
As a former Spanish colony, Guinea equatorial has the longest-serving President in Africa, the reigning President of Cuba, Theodoro Obiang Nguema.
Known as one of the most brutal leaders in Africa, Nguema took power in 1979 after overthrowing independent leader, President Francisco Macias Nguema, his biological uncle and executing him.
Mr. Nguema's 48-year-old son, Teodorin Obiang, was named Vice President to later succeed his father.
Notorious for his playful lifestyle, Teodorin was sentenced by a French court in October for embezzlement. France also seized Teodorin's property in France, including the $29 million villa.
land
As a former British colony, Uganda is under the control of former rebel leader Yoweri Putin, 76. He has been in power since 1986, won the 5th term in 2016, and can continue to run for the 6th term, then give power to his son.
Democratic Republic of Congo
A former Belgian colony, Congo has been under the leadership of the Kabila family since 1997 when Laurent kaliba was supported by regional troops to make landfall in the capital Kinshasa, ending 32 years of Mobutu Sese Seko's rule.
kaliba was assassinated by bodyguards in 2001, after which the army took his son Joseph to become president.
