As one of the world's richest billionaires, Elon Musk can easily spend hundreds of millions of dollars on any luxury home he wants. Instead, the American billionaire is living in a small 50,000-dollar house in Boca Chica, Texas, where his SpaceX company is headquartered.
Elon Musk - who has an estimated net worth of $160.4 billion according to Forbes magazine - announced the news about his modest home in a tweet last month.
My home is now a 50,000-dollar apartment in Boca Chica/Starbase that I rented from SpaceX. However, thats amazing, Elon Musk wrote on Twitter.
The New York Post recently revealed that the apartment was actually a foldable pre-cast house built by the housing startup Boxabl.
The foldable "Casita" that Tesla CEO is living in is only about 37 square meters wide and can be transported. It is arranged like a studio apartment, with a fully staffed kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom.
Although this has not been officially confirmed, Boxabl Inc. hinted in an advertising video in November that one of the "Casitas" had been installed "for an unlikely customer".
The 50-year-old billionaire's move comes more than a year after he announced on Twitter that he would "sell almost all of his material assets" and "not own a single house".
Since then, Elon Musk has fulfilled his promise, selling most of the assets in his real estate portfolio. Elon Musk became officially homeless in June when he put up for sale his last home in San Francisco for 37.5 million USD.
