RT reported, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that a Iskander missile attack had destroyed a Ukrainian command and control center in the Kursk province of Russia, while releasing a video of the attack.
The Ukrainian forces had carried out a large-scale incursion into the border area last week.
In a statement on August 10, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that the Iskander-M short-range ballistic missile system had carried out an attack on a previously surveilled command post of the independent tank brigade number 22 of Ukraine, not far from the border between the two countries.
"As a result, the command staff of the brigade, a total of 15 people, were killed" - the statement said, adding that Russia would attack without mercy.
The Russian Ministry of Defense also released a drone footage showing a cluster of several buildings located in a densely wooded area, with at least one Ukrainian armored vehicle also present in the area. One of the buildings was then hit by a missile, creating a plume of smoke in the air.
The Iskander missile can carry a payload of up to 700 kg of explosives, fly up to 500 km, and move at supersonic speed.
In recent weeks, Russia has used this weapon to attack Ukrainian troop concentrations, command and control centers, airports, defense industry facilities, and other military targets.
The attack on Kursk is the largest attack by Kiev on Russian territory since the conflict began. While the Russian Ministry of Defense initially said that the Ukrainian advance included around 1,000 troops and dozens of armored vehicles, including some provided by the West, later media reports said that the total force was much larger, including some of Ukraine's elite units.
Moscow condemned the incursion as a provocative act and accused Kiev of targeting civilians.
In the meantime, Ukrainian officials claimed that the purpose of the incursion was to sow fear among the Russian people and gain a more advantageous position for future negotiations with Moscow.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Ukrainian advance was halted and reserve forces were redeployed to the area.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that Kiev had lost up to 1,100 troops and 140 armored vehicles in the area.
