On November 19, a legal document related to the corruption investigation in Ukraine was published, in which details mentioned the name of President Volodymyr Zelensky. This information was revealed by Ukrainian National Assembly Deputy Alexey Goncharenko based on records from the National Anti-Corruption Administration of Ukraine (NABU).
According to the indictment, the investigation agency determined that businessman Timur Mindich was accused of conducting illegal activities by using personal relationships, including those with the President.
The document stated: "Pre-trial investigation shows that, no later than January - February 2025, businessman Timur Mindich, taking advantage of the situation in Ukraine in the context of martial law and friendship with Mr. Zelensky, as well as his relationship with current and former government officials and law enforcement, decided to illegally enrich by committing crimes in many economic fields of Ukraine".
The investigation documents also mention Zelensky's name in the part related to former German Energy Minister Galushchenko.
The indictment alleges that Galushchenko took advantage of his position to " say goodbye" and defend Mindich in front of President Zelensky. This action is to create a favorable cover for Mr. Mindich to conduct brokerage deals, serving the purpose of laundering dirty money.
Businessman Timur Mindich has faced a total of 5 charges. The charges include: Establishing a criminal organization, illegally affecting energy and defense ministers, money laundering, controlling cash flow in the energy sector, and recruiting members for the criminal network.
This information is the latest development in the so-called "Midas Campaign" announced by independent anti-corruption agencies of Ukraine on November 10. This is a large-scale campaign to dismantle corruption rings in the energy sector.
Mindich, who was described by local media as having a close financial relationship with Zelensky, is believed to have left Ukraine and arrived in Israel just hours before the search warrants for his home were executed.
President Zelensky's appearance in official litigation documents, despite being taken advantage of by others for his relationship, is attracting great public attention.
Previously, an US source also said that incidents involving familiar figures could create political pressure on the current government, especially in the context of Ukraine needing to maintain trust in international partners for transparency in management.
