The northern Ukrainian city of Sumy has suffered the second drone attack from Russia in the past 24 hours, causing widespread power outages, according to Governor Oleh Hryhorov.
Mr. Hryhorov said on Telegram that within half an hour, Russia had carried out more than 10 drone attacks targeting the city, paralyzing the power system and forcing many important infrastructure to operate with backup sources.
The regional government is checking the casualties and confirmed that the power will be restored as soon as the technical force can work safely. Sumy, a city with a population of about 250,000 before the conflict in February 2022, has long been a regular target of attacks from Russia.
Also on December 8, Mr. Hryhorov announced another drone attack that hit an apartment complex, injuring 7 people. Some victims had to be hospitalized while the rest were treated and discharged afterwards.
According to the authorities, the attack caused great damage to the building and forced rescue forces to evacuate residents from high-rise buildings.
The attacks on Ukraine over the past several months have focused on the energy system as winter approaches. The latest attack left the entire city of Sumy without power, further affecting the lives of local people.
There has been no immediate comment from Moscow on the attacks.
