The Balticconnector gas pipeline is placed parallel to lines 1A and 1B of the Nord Stream 1 pipeline. The damaged Balticconnector pipeline is located near Nord Stream 1A, Estonias ERR news site quoted Elering as saying.
It is known that routes 1A and 1B of the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline are about 900m apart.
The Balticconnector pipeline also passes through lines 2A and 2B Nord Stream 2 at a location about 1km from Nord Stream 1A.
The Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines were damaged in a suspected sabotage attack in September 2022.
ERR news site said that in the coming weeks, authorities will clearly determine how many damaged sections of the Balticconnector pipeline need to be replaced.
In theory, it is possible to replace the 4 km long gas pipeline. However, Elering spokeswoman Ain Koster said it is likely that only a shorter section of pipeline will be replaced, significantly reducing costs.
The Balticconnector gas pipeline broke down in Finland's exclusive economic zone on October 8. In addition to the pipeline, two cables between Estonia and Finland, Sweden and Estonia and one Russian cable were also severed.
Finnish and Estonian authorities are investigating the Balticconnector gas pipeline and telecommunication cables. Investigators believe that all of these incidents are related.
Last week, Finnish authorities determined that the Balticconnector pipeline incident was related to the Hong Kong-flagged ship (China) Newnew Polar Bear.
An anchor believed to be of the ship has been found next to a gas pipeline connecting Estonia and Finland. Paint from the anchor was also determined to be damaged in the gas pipeline.
Images of the Newnew Polar Bear taken last month showed the ship losing an anchor. The ship was also identified as being in the Baltic Sea at the time of the Balticconnector pipeline break.
Regarding the Balticconnector pipeline incident, Politico reported that Finland and Estonia have officially sent a legal notice to China to request cooperation in the investigation of the incident.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said: "We hope China will cooperate and we can have the opportunity to conduct more investigations."
Foreign Minister Tsahkna said that the duration of the investigation will depend on the level of cooperation between China. Investigators need to learn about the ship as well as the captain and crew.
For its part, China affirmed that it will cooperate comprehensively in the investigation into the gas pipeline incident in the Baltic Sea.
