Seven people were shot and killed on the afternoon of January 23 in San Mateo County, California, the county sh sh sh sheriff's office said.
The shooting occurred at around 2:20 p.m. local time at two separate locations near Highway 92 and the half Moon Bay city boundary, nearly 50 km south of San Francisco.
In addition to the seven dead, another was transferred to Stanford Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Suspect Zhao Chunli, 67, in Half Moon Bay, was found in a doctor's car in a Half Moon Bay parking lot, the San Mateo County Sheriff's office said.
The statement said: Chunli was detained without incident and the weapon was in his vehicle. There is currently no significant threat to the community.
The police chief's office added that the motive for the shooting has not yet been determined.
The shooting at Half Moon Bay comes two days after 11 people were killed at the Lunar New Year festival in Monterey Park, California. Officials called it the bloodiest mass shooting in Los Angeles County's history.
