RT reported that according to the latest public opinion poll, Yabloko - the independent party founded in 1993 by economist Grigory Yavlinsky - no longer receives any support in Russian society.
According to the results of a poll released by the Public Opinion Organization (FOM) on May 27, although the support of the Yabloko party has ranged from 1% to 2% in recent years, it has dropped to 0% for the first time.
According to a survey by the FOM, Yavlinskys vision for a free democracy is currently less favored than the Green Party or the Russian Social Justice Pensionary Party.
The latest survey was conducted from May 17-19 and asked adults of Russia who they would vote for if the Russian general election were held on May 26.
Born in Lviv, Ukraine today, Yavlinsky was a senior figure in the Soviet Ministry of Labor when he wrote the book 500 Days - a detailed plan in 1990 on the rapid transition of the Soviet Union to a free market economy.
He was a vocal critic of the shocking transition process, which was supported by Russian President Boris Yeltsin and reformist Yegor Gaidar in 1992. However, the Russian economy and politics in the post-Soviet era were not fully prepared for the transition period and the final "shock" brought countless tragic consequences.
Co-founded by Yavlinsky in 1993, the Yabloko party has won 27 seats in the National Duma (the lower house) with 450 members, with 8% of the national vote.
In the 1996 election, Yabloko did even better, winning 45 seats. However, by 2000, the number of these seats had dropped to 20 seats and by 2003, it had not reached 5% to enter the legislative body.
In 2021, Yabloko received only 1.37% of the votes in the general election. Alexey Navalny, an opposition activist serving a corruption sentence at the time, told his supporters to back Yabloko, but Yavlinsky denied it. Alexey Navalny was a member of Yabloko from 2000 to 2007, before being fired for racist statements.
After Russia launched its military campaign in Ukraine, the Yabloko party called it a Russian war with an objective course of history, a war against time and going against Russias national interests.
