The gift box of billionaire Bill Gates was given to a woman named Shelby - a Reddit user.
This gift box includes a handwritten copy of the novel "The Great Gatsby" signed by Bill Gates, some books, cat toys, lego Harry Potter and many other items, according to Shelby's post on RedditGifts.com.
The American technology billionaire's gift package was given through an annual gift exchange program called Reddit Secret Santa. Accordingly, Reddit will take charge of user gift exchanges every year.
"I know Bill Gates has been involved for many years but never thought he would be my secret Santa Claus. It was really surprising," Shelby said.
Reddit spokesperson Bill Gates confirmed that he sent the gift package. The American billionaire has been a part of Reddit's gift exchange since 2013.
Shelby said she had a feeling when she received the notice from December 17 that her gift needed to be delivered overnight.
"I received a notice that it was being transported from Washington. I told my husband, Maybe this is a gift from Bill Gates! - Shelby recounted.
"When I looked back the next morning and saw a 36kg gift box, I thought, 'Maybe this is definitely a gift from Bill Gates,' the lucky Reddit user added.
When she arrived at the FedEx office to pick up the package, the delivery staff were excited, shouting, "You received a gift from Bill Gates! ".
Shelby said this was her 95th time exchanging gifts on Reddit and her gift wrapping was decorated with the words "#95".
"I know that no gift can compensate for the loss of someone so important to you. I was very sorry to hear about your mother and I donated to the American Heart Association to commemorate her. I hope you and your family will find a "new normal" in this holiday season," Bill Gates wrote.
The gift comes after a difficult year for Shelby personally. Her mother suddenly passed away 10 days before her wedding in April. Shelby's family has called for donations to the American Heart Association after her mother passed away.
