The water level of 23 rivers in northeastern China's Heilongjiang Province is flowing above the warning level due to continuous rainfall brought by Typhoon Maysak and Typhoon Haishen, Xinhua News Agency quoted local government information as saying on September 10.
On September 10, according to the Department of Irrigation of Heilong Giang province, 36 hydrological monitoring stations along the rivers recorded water levels above the warning level from 0.01 to 1.95 meters.
Affected by recent rainfall and large upstream flows, the Tung Hoa River - the largest bypass of the Hac Long Giang River - and the Tuy Phan River in the province both witnessed the first flood of the year on September 10.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Heilongjiang - one of China's agriculturalally fertile provinces - storms and floods have seriously affected cultivated and cropland.
Compared to other provinces in eastern and southern China, typhoons are less common in Heilongjiang because the province is not located near a large area of sea.
