South Korean investigators arrested impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol at his residence on January 15 and took him in for questioning over the martial law declaration on December 3, 2024, Yonhap reported.
According to the Corruption Investigation Office of Senior Officials (CIO), the arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk Yeol was executed at 10:33 a.m. on January 15, local time.
Live television footage showed a motorcade carrying President Yoon Suk Yeol leaving the presidential residence in central Seoul to head to the CIO office in Gwacheon, south of Seoul.
President Yoon Suk-yeol's arrest came a day after the first impeachment trial ended in just four minutes on January 14. During the trial, the Constitutional Court rejected Yoon's request to remove one of the eight judges from the trial.
The next impeachment trial of President Yoon Suk Yeol is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. on January 16, and the court will hold the trial regardless of whether Yoon Suk Yeol is present or not.
