Regarding the US-led joint airstrike directed against Syria, LHQ Secretary General Antonio Guterres called on members to " restrain themselves in these dangerous situations".
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he had been following reports of attacks by the US, UK and France three of the five permanent members of the Security Council and issued a warning that they are obliged to act in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law in general.
According to CNN, Mr. Antonio Guterres has called on countries to " avoid any action that would escalate the war and aggravate the suffering of the Syrian people".
"I call on members of the Security Council to agree and take responsibility for this," Guterres said. " any use of chemical weapons is harmful. I have repeatedly expressed my deep disappointment that the Security Council has failed to agree on a mechanism to specialize in investigating the use of chemical weapons in Syria. I call on the Security Council to fulfill its responsibility and cooperate with member states to achieve this goal," CNN quoted Mr. Guterres as saying.
