One year of Gaza war, the situation is increasingly complicated

Bùi Đức |

October 7, 2024 marks one year since the outbreak of war in Gaza. The war has spread to many areas in the Middle East, making the situation more complicated.

A year after its war against Hamas, Israel has a new front in Lebanon to confront Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group that has clashed with Israel across the border since the war in the Gaza Strip broke out on October 7, 2023.

Israel has recently attacked many targets in the capital Beirut (Lebanon) because it believes that this is a shelter for Hezbollah forces. According to AP, the southern suburbs of Beirut were hit by an airstrike on the night of October 6, local time.

The number of casualties from this attack is still unknown. However, the airstrike earlier in the day in southeastern Beirut killed 6 people, including 3 children.

In early October, Israel launched a ground military operation in Lebanon after a series of attacks that killed many senior Hezbollah commanders, including leader Hassan Nasrallah.

Israeli airstrikes on the Lebanese border have killed at least 1,400 Lebanese, including civilians, medical workers and Hezbollah fighters, and left 1.2 million Lebanese homeless.

The Israeli military said the main goal was to push Hezbollah away from the border area, creating conditions for tens of thousands of Israelis to return home.

Regarding the situation in the Gaza battlefield, Israel continues to increase military activities and also deploy ground campaigns in this area. Israel said that 3 soldiers were killed in fighting at a refugee camp in Gaza on October 6.

In addition, Israel is actively calling on about 300,000 civilians to evacuate from devastated areas in the Gaza Strip to limit casualties.

The war between Israel and Hamas has killed 42,000 Palestinians, more than half of them women and children, the Gaza Ministry of Health said.

After Iran's surprise missile attack on October 2, Israel declared it would retaliate at all costs despite strong warnings from Iran.

For many years, Gaza has been a disputed territory between Israel and Hamas. The two sides have been in constant conflict since the early 2000s.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched an unprecedented attack, launching more than 5,000 rockets at Israel.

Hamas also launched a surprise attack on southern Israel, killing 1,200 people in the country. Hamas gunmen also captured about 250 people and took them to the Gaza Strip as hostages.

Israel then immediately responded with massive airstrikes and opened a battlefield in Gaza.

Experts say the war in the Middle East is becoming more and more complicated and unpredictable because the conflict is not only limited to the Gaza Strip; between Israel and Hamas but also spreads to many other factions and regions.
