A year after its war against Hamas, Israel has a new front in Lebanon to confront Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group that has clashed with Israel across the border since the war in the Gaza Strip broke out on October 7, 2023.
Israel has recently attacked many targets in the capital Beirut (Lebanon) because it believes that this is a shelter for Hezbollah forces. According to AP, the southern suburbs of Beirut were hit by an airstrike on the night of October 6, local time.
The number of casualties from this attack is still unknown. However, the airstrike earlier in the day in southeastern Beirut killed 6 people, including 3 children.
In early October, Israel launched a ground military operation in Lebanon after a series of attacks that killed many senior Hezbollah commanders, including leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Israeli airstrikes on the Lebanese border have killed at least 1,400 Lebanese, including civilians, medical workers and Hezbollah fighters, and left 1.2 million Lebanese homeless.
The Israeli military said the main goal was to push Hezbollah away from the border area, creating conditions for tens of thousands of Israelis to return home.
