China on August 5 announced retaliatory measures against the US, in response to recent trade sanctions imposed by Washington on the grounds of forced labor and national security concerns.
US measures "seriously harm China's legitimate rights and interests," a trade ministry spokesman said in a statement.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) on the same day announced retaliatory measures under legal regulations against 6 US entities with immediate effective measures.
According to MOFCOM's announcement, these 6 entities include Applied DNA Sciences, Inc., Stratum Reservoir, LLC, Altana Technologies, Inc., Responsible Business Alliance, Verite Group, Inc. and Human Rights in China. These entities have been included in China's list of countermeasures. According to the decision, organizations and individuals in Chinese territory are prohibited from participating in transactions, cooperation and related activities with the above entities.
MOFCOM said that the US recently imposed sanctions on Chinese businesses under the pretext of so-called "forced labor", seriously violating international law and basic norms governing international relations, and seriously infringing upon China's sovereignty, security and development interests.
This decision was approved by the national coordination mechanism for dealing with foreign sanctions. MOFCOM said the decision was made under Articles 3, 4, 6, 9, 10 and 15 of the Law on Combating Foreign Sanctions of the People's Republic of China, along with Articles 3, 5, 8 and 10 in the provisions of this law.
