Xinhua News Agency reported that China's flooding has caused the Yuxi River, a branch of the Yangtze River, to fall into its most dangerous situation in 200 years. At 3:00 p.m. on August 17, the flood peak measured at the Shangde hydrological station on the Bach Thuy River was 2,250 cubic meters per second.
The Department of Irrigation of Cam Tuc province said that the water level in Bich Khau reservoir on the river used to exceed 702 meters, 7 meters higher than the regulations. The reservoir continues to release water.
On August 17, the water flow into Bich Khau reservoir was still exceeding 4,000 cubic meters per second, while the water discharge rate was 3,500 cubic meters per second.
China's floods have affected 402,000 people in six cities in the Yates River, causing $223.4 million in damage and several irrigation conservation facilities. The city government said that about 10,000 people in Van and Lung Nam districts were trapped in mud.
As of August 17, floods have damaged 3,303 kilometers of roads in Long Nam city, disrupting traffic on 497 roads. More than 38,000 people have been evacuated from the area.
The city government has dispatched 22,000 rescue workers and 2,720 machines to restore the roads.
