On February 6, the security situation in the western border region of Russia continued to heat up with a large-scale attack targeting essential civil infrastructure.
Through the official Telegram channel, the Governor of the Bryansk region, Mr. Alexander Bogomaz, provided detailed information about the incident. Accordingly, the Ukrainian army implemented a dangerous "mixed attack" tactic.
Instead of using attack vehicles alone as before, this time Kiev has combined two main types of equipment: high-mobility multiple launch rocket artillery (HIMARS) manufactured by the US and fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Ukrainian terrorists once again targeted energy facilities in the Bryansk region. The enemy's army carried out a combined attack involving HIMARS missiles and drones," Governor Bogomaz wrote in his statement.
The target of this attack is the regional power grid system. The use of a mixed strategy between high-speed missiles and UAVs is assessed by military experts as aiming to overload and mislead Russia's air defense system, thereby increasing the probability of hitting the target.
The consequence of the attack has caused the energy supply to some residential areas to be temporarily interrupted. However, local authorities said they have prepared response plans for such situations.
Immediately after the gunshots stopped, emergency repair teams and rescue forces were dispatched to the scene.
Mr. Bogomaz confirmed that thanks to the efforts of technical units, power sources in affected areas have been quickly restored, minimizing the impact on people's lives in cold winter conditions.
Bryansk is a Russian province sharing borders with both Ukraine and Belarus. Due to its sensitive geographical location, this area has frequently become a target of shelling and drone attacks since the conflict broke out.
Ukraine's use of high-precision weapons such as HIMARS to attack energy infrastructure instead of purely military targets shows a change in target selection, aimed at putting pressure on Russia's rear and logistics operation capabilities.
